The Story
The ATOM project started on a June afternoon in the Pennsylvania backyard of Communities Rising, Inc. Director, Betsy McCoy. On the suggestion of her son Andy, Betsy and Kathy Fritz, Fulbright Visiting Lecturer to Sristhti, sat down and discussed the importance of educational opportunities for students in rural India and the lack of art exposure that this group of children have. With only one part-time art teacher for 800 children and the help of visiting interns only a small portion of these children get any type of exposure to art or creative thinking. From here the project began to take shape and a class established with Professional Diploma design students and Center for Research, Training and Development at Srishti School of Art, Design & Technology in Bangalore, India. Through the Fulbright Fellowship, professor Kathleen Fritz, is facilitating the creation of an integrated art instruction tool-kit for both teachers and students.
